Timothy Alexander Guzman, Silent Crow News – It has been reported that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will deliver a Christmas speech on Thursday, December 20, according to a published Facebook page titled “Julian Assange-Christmas Speech 2012”. Assange has been living in the Ecuador’s embassy in the United Kingdom since June 19. Ecuador has granted Assange with Asylum, a move that Washington did not like. President Correa is already on Washington’s hate list when he expelled the U.S. Manta Airbase in 2009 and defaulted on Ecuador’s foreign debt calling it “Illegitimate”. President Correa also has close relationships with many of Washington’s enemies in Latin America and throughout the world that include Venezuela and Iran which does not make the situation any better. However, Assange is confined to the embassy because the British government has threatened him with an immediate arrest the second he steps foot on British soil to face charges of rape and sexual assault in Sweden. The evidence of a used condom he allegedly used on his victim has been proven to be false because the condom did not have his DNA as reported by the Daily Mail in the UK on September 15th with the headline that clearly read “Condom used as evidence in Assange sex case ‘does not contain his DNA’. It is evident that those who seek to arrest Assange are trying to frame him for a crime he did not commit. They are intent on creating any excuse to extradite him to Sweden to the point of desparation. Now a second victim is coming forward claiming that Assange raped her while she was asleep. You cannot make this up.
The truth of the matter is that there is no case against Assange. It would only give a window of opportunity for the United States to extend their tentacles to Sweden to apprehend Assange on these baseless charges. With Europe subservient to Washington’s power and influence in the continent, don’t be surprised if that were to happen. What was Julian Assange’s crime? As the founder of WikiLeaks, he launched thousands of State Department cables with a video footage from an Apache helicopter of a 2007 incident where the U.S. military deliberately killed civilians that included two Reuter’s employees. It was footage that showed how the U.S. military operates without any remorse and targets people that could “possibly” be insurgents operating in Iraq. It was a video that drew strong criticism from around the world. It was proven by Wikileaks that the film was factual where even in their website, explains how they came into conclusion that the video they provided for the public would prove who was responsible for this crime, “For our release of the Collateral Murder video, we sent a team of journalists to Iraq to interview the victims and observers of the helicopter attack. The team obtained copies of hospital records, death certificates, eye witness statements and other corroborating evidence supporting the truth of the story. Our verification process does not mean we will never make a mistake, but so far our method has meant that WikiLeaks has correctly identified the veracity of every document it has published”. And the truth shall set you free? Not for Assange, as Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein stated in the Wall Street Journal on December 7th, 2010 that Julian Assange violated the “Espionage Act of 1917” and should be sent to prison. “When WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange released his latest document trove—more than 250,000 secret State Department cables—he intentionally harmed the U.S. government. The release of these documents damages our national interests and puts innocent lives at risk. He should be vigorously prosecuted for espionage”. Julian Assange is an anti-war activist who believes in free-speech and the right for the freedom of information for the public. The world has the right to know what is going on especially when innocent people are being killed for the sake of spreading Democracy. Senator Feinstein makes it clear that Assange should be prosecuted for expressing the freedom of information that proves that the U.S. government is guilty for war crimes it committed against innocent people.
The world needs to see these atrocities committed by the U.S. military because it is a reminder that continuing a war of aggression has its consequences. The American people who Senator Feinstein supposedly represents need to see the evidence provided by such news organizations as Wikileaks is a public service on how their tax dollars are being spent in their names. But according to Senator Feinstein “The law Mr. Assange continues to violate is the Espionage Act of 1917. That law makes it a felony for an unauthorized person to possess or transmit “information relating to the national defense which information the possessor has reason to believe could be used to the injury of the United States or to the advantage of any foreign nation.”
The Julian Assange case should be a wake-up call to the American people because the fact of the matter is that their government committed war crimes. The U.S. government did not want their citizens to find out what was really going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is the right of people to know the truth on what their government is doing throughout the world. Since free-speech is becoming more difficult to express, the American people should be more concerned about their own constitutional rights that are gradually disappearing from the public. H.R. 347, titled the ‘Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act’, passed the House by the majority in a 399-3 vote that was signed by President Obama on March 8th, 2011. It allows protesters unruly or not to be moved elsewhere. Supposedly the law was an updated version of Section 1752 of title 18 of the United States code, one that restricts public protests from areas that are occupied by Presidents, Vice-Presidents, or any other important figures that the secret service protects.
What makes this significant in terms of free-speech? First, you cannot protest your elected officials where they will be able to hear your concerns. Secondly, if you enter a “restricted” area “knowingly” you may be prosecuted under the old law and now if you enter a restricted area “unknowingly” under the revised version of the old law you may be charged with a federal offense. This just means no protests anywhere or anytime. A federal crime to protest is an infringement on free-speech and the freedom of assembly. The right to protest and the right to free-speech is a human right. The world needs to recognize what is at stake here. The Julian Assange case is not just about Julian Assange, it’s about all of us, our freedoms of expression, our right to assemble, our right to know the truth of any situation that effects our lives especially in a time of war. It is a fundamental right to know what the government does in our name. It is time to free Julian Assange because he represents our right to free-speech. This will be a Christmas speech that will have meaning, a purpose, one that is important to our freedoms. It is our human right, one that Washington and London should take note of. Merry Christmas!
